HYDERABAD: Abandoned quarries found within the GHMC limits should be filled up with building material waste to avoid any untoward incidents at the sites, GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy issued directions to the Engineering wing officials of civic body regarding this.
The GHMC commissioner on Saturday inspected various engineering related works being undertaken up at Qutbullapur Circle. While inspecting the North Zone, the commissioner observed that several abandoned quarries exist in zone posing a threat to commuters.
The commissioner directed the engineering officials to dump the construction debris into the empty pits on priority basis. He directed the officials to conduct a meeting with Medchal District collector to take up the works pertaining to abandoned quarries. Janardhan Reddy directed officials to put up proposals for alternative road from Qutbullapur Suchithra to Bank of Baroda near Municipal Office. He has identified six abandoned quarries in Qutbullapur Circle and also inspected the ongoing Hitech construction works at Srinivas Enclave.
In a review meeting held later, the commissioner directed officials to create awareness among citizens who are staying near nalas not to throw garbage into the drains.
