One wetbound lane on Jacksonville’s Hart Bridge remains closed as part of a Thursday morning shutdown to remove construction equipment from the span in advance of Hurricane Irma, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
Material including barricades and other equipment are being removed as a precaution to maintain the safety of motorists and the bridge in the event of high winds. The equipment is part of an ongoing state bridge maintenance project. Contractors are working as quickly as possible to remove the material and reopen the lane, transportation officials said.
The state closed the Main Street bridge Wednesday to remove construction material from that span, and it reopened in the early evening.
