Local nonprofit Historic Houston announced a partnership Saturday with national auction firm MaxSold to sell reclaimed materials from historic buildings to the highest bidder.
Since 2003, Historic Houston has deconstructed old buildings slated for demolition and salvages antique material, from flooring, doors and light fixtures to windows, bathtubs, mantles, columns and other hardware, then sold them from a warehouse near the Heights. That warehouse went out of business in 2001 amid rising costs.
Now the materials will be available through online auction via MaxSold, which entered the auction business in 1956 and has evolved to take bids online.
“We are happy to extend our hyperlocal sale of goods service to excellent causes like this,” said MaxSold founder Barry Gordon in a news release Saturday.
All proceeds from the auctions will fund Historic Houston’s mission to preserve Houston’s historic architecture and building resources.
