RETAIL PRICES of construction materials in the National Capital Region (NCR) rose in 2016, rebounding from a contraction in 2015.
Data posted on the Philippine Statistics Authority web site showed that the annual average growth of the construction materials retail price index (CMRPI) for all items in 2016 picked up by 1.3%, compared with a decline of 0.1% in 2015.
In 2016, prices of masonry materials rose 2.0% while those of plumbing materials grew 1.5%.
Prices of electrical materials and miscellaneous construction materials increased 0.9% and 2.4%, respectively.
The increase in retail prices of construction materials in the NCR slowed in December compared with a month earlier.
The overall CMRPI for December rose 1.8% year on year, compared to 2.2% in November.
During the month, prices for carpentry materials rose 1.8%, followed by tinsmithry materials at 1.2%%. Masonry material prices grew 3.0%, unchanged from November. — Danica M. Uy
